Murals

The Moline mural “City of Mills” is a 30 x 18’ painting on brick depicting the founding year of 1848, when the first John Deere factory (on left) was built and the Sears flour mill (on right) was the largest mill on the upper Mississippi. The painting shows a life sized- John Deere in the foreground (in red shirt) and partner John Gould (on right) who planned the city.  Gustafson designed the mural to depict a historically accurate image showing the early brush dam, the mills in and around the river, Arsenal Island and a river boat.  The mural was completed in the fall of 2009 and is located in the Historic Courtyard by the River House Restaurant in downtown Moline.
